Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) About Sales Recruiting

The biggest thing candidates can do is focus on their resume layout. It’s a long-established fact that a recruiter will be distracted by the wordy content of a sales resume.

Resumes with long paragraphs and too many bullet points will be hard to go through. We have resume examples that can help you find the best way to write your own resume while keeping it straight to the point so ATS and recruiters can see who you are and why you’re important.

A sales recruiter receives quite a few incoming calls from sales candidates every day, so when they hear something like, "Um, yeah, I’m looking for someone to help me find a sales job," you’re not going to get very far.

The minute you start to speak, you need to have a plan. Be prepared to specifically disclose what prompted you to pick up the phone and make that call.

Say something like this:

“Hey, my name is X. I’m an Outside Sales Rep for an industrial sales company. I’m looking to make a move. My number is xxx-xxx-xxxx. I’ve submitted my resume. Would someone please call me back to discuss my career goals?"

Always use email unless the sales recruiter asks you to call them back. If you want information or want to be sure your sales recruiter is going to get your message and keep track of information or answers you are seeking, then use email, always.

Recruiters aren’t always going to hit the nail on the head and find you the perfect position every time. It’s okay to (politely) decline a job opportunity from your sales headhunter.

Say something like the follow:

“Thank you so much for the opportunity. I’m not interested in this specific position, but please keep me in mind for anything else that should arise.”

Be sure to include specifics on why you’re not interested in the position so your sales recruiter can keep that in mind for future opportunities.

The simple and easiest way is to send a recruiter you’re interested in working with a connection invite. Most recruiters are active on LinkedIn searching for sales candidates, so they’ll get the notification and accept. Then you’ll be able to view the contact info or have the ability to IM them.

We here at Sales Recruiters Dallas prefer the direct IM and welcome that approach. Use 2-3 sentences maximum to share what you’re looking for.
